Abstract

This chapter provides detail description of echocardiography in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic disorder with clinically unexplained myocardial hypertrophy (most commonly of the interventricular septum) that occurs in the absence of a hemodynamic cause. This chapter covers important topic like definitions of hypertrophy, locations of hypertrophy, left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, differential diagnosis of hypertrophy, treatment strategies in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, surgical septal myectomy, dynamic systolic dysfunction, alcohol septal ablation, endocarditis prophylaxis. Each topic is described with color images. 21 self-explanatory and comprehensive images for better understanding are included in this chapter. 100 references are given at the end of the chapter to facilitate further reading.
