Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to familiarize the reader with the M-mode and two-dimensional echocardiography in congenital heart disease. Liberal use of 205 illustrative labelled screen images, graphs are intended to orient the reader as well as provide an example of the anatomical defect or finding being discussed for better understanding. After reading this chapter you will able to know basics of imaging and sequential segmental analysis, left-to-right shunts, atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, aortopulmonary window, atrioventricular septal defects, congenital left ventricular and right ventricular inflow anomalies, left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, echocardiographic anatomy of tetralogy of fallot with pulmonary stenosis, complete transposition of great arteries, atrioventricular and ventricoarterial discordance, pulmonary veins, imaging of coronary and pulmonary arteries, echocardiographic evaluation of aortic arch and its anomalies, univentricular heart and heterotaxy syndrome. There are twenty tables in this chapter which are very well explained for studies with echocardiographic checklist for the univentricular pathway patient, venoatrial connections in isomerism syndromes, cardiac and extracardiac anomalies in isomerism syndromes, classification of tricuspid atresia, classification of interrupted aortic arch, left ventricular mass and volume indexed to body surface area. Each topic is described with color images. 338 references are given at the end of the chapter to facilitate further reading.
