Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to familiarize the reader with the echocardiography in the elderly. After reading this chapter you will able to know aortic atherosclerosis, penetrating aortic ulcer, aortic valve sclerosis, aortic stenosis, aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection, left ventricular mass, dimensions and function, echocardiography in stroke patients, assessment of coronary stenosis, mitral annular calcification, prosthetic valves. Liberal use of 27 illustrative labelled screen images and tables are intended to orient the reader as well as provide an example of the anatomical defect or finding being discussed for better understanding. Each topic is described with colorful images. There are 171 references given at the end of the chapter to facilitate the further reading.
