Ready Reckoner of Adverse Drug Reactions

by Yash Paul, Priya Marwah

Adverse drug reactions are caused by taking medication. They may be of single dose or prolonged administration of a drug or result from the combination of two or more drugs. Pharmacology is a branch of science that deals with medicine and biology concerned with drug action which is classified into Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics. Pharmacodynamics helps us understand the interactions of chemicals with biological receptors; whereas Pharmacokinetics explains the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of chemicals from the biological systems. Pharmacogenomics is the branch of pharmacology, which studies how genes determine individual variations to drug response. It aims to develop rational means to optimize drug therapy according to patient’s genotype, ensuring maximum efficacy with minimal adverse reactions. Thus it leads to a net decrease in the cost of healthcare. This book depicts the various disorders of body systems due to adverse drug reactions and also a huge list of drugs with their adverse reactions.
