Femtolaser Cataract Surgery

by Federica Gualdi, Luca Gualdi

The book Femto-Laser Cataract Surgery depicts the latest advancement in ophthalmology that is the invention of femto-laser systems for cataract surgery. Today, the cataract treatment consists of the surgical removal of the lens followed by the implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL). Cataract has remained the leading cause of blindness in many countries. There is need for the newer technique to reduce the intra and postoperative risks for patients and to facilitate the intervention for the surgeons, so as to allow rapid functional recovery of sight. One such technique is the Femtosecond Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery. The purpose of this book is to describe the femtosecond laser surgery, and to compare it with the traditional phacoemulsification, which represents the current standard technique. The five laser systems discussed are LenSx, VICTUS, LensAR, Catalys Precision Laser System and the FEMTO LDV Z8 Laser Systems.
