Abstract

This chapter is describes about liver disease complicating pregnancy. Liver disease complicating pregnancy is a challenge to the health care professionals managing these patients. The physiological changes in pregnancy will have an impact on the diagnosis of liver disorders just as with other medical conditions associated with pregnancy. Liver diseases during pregnancy can multiple causes. Budd-Chiari syndrome, Viral Hepatitis A to E, alcohol related disease, gallstone disease and tropical diseases are disorders in coincidental to pregnancy. HELLP, AFLP, intra hepatic cholestasis in pregnancy and hyperemesis gravidarum are disorders in peculiar to pregnancy. This chapter also comprises of well-illustrated tables on impact of physiological changes of pregnancy on liver function, liver diseases in pregnancy and features of acute viral hepatitis in pregnancy.
