This chapter is on burns, inhalation and electrical injury. Burns are one of the most devastating conditions in terms of morbidity and mortality and can lead to lifelong disfigurement and functional loss in survivors. Flames, scalds, chemicals and electrical are four causes of burns. Rescue, resuscitate, retrieve, resurface, rehabilitate, reconstruct and review are seven phases of burn management. Thermal injuries, electrical injury and chemical injury are three types of burns. History taking, primary survey, analgesia, assessment and resuscitation, and escharotomy and fasciotomy are initial management of a major burn. Aims of burn care, types of burns, initial management of a major burn, intensive care management and control of infection, infection in burns patients, pathogenesis and treatment of burns, and burns in the developing world and burn disasters are also discussed in this chapter.
