The book “Handbook on Falciparum Malaria” discusses about the overview, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features of falciparum malaria. Malaria is a complex and deadly disease risking about half of the world’s population and contributes majorly to poverty and limiting economic development. This book has chapters detailing the treatments and side effects of antimalarial therapy. This book also highlights the upsurge in the disease after initial control due to the development of resistance of mosquitoes to insecticides as well as of the Plasmodium to conventional drugs. The life cycle of malaria parasite, plasmodium is and is very well described in the book chapters. The release of cytokines in response to parasites manifests headache, fever and rigors, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, tiredness, aching joints and muscles, thrombocytopenia, immunosuppression, coagulopathy and central nervous system manifestations. This book also has selected chapters highlighting cerebral malaria, prevention strategies, laboratory and serological diagnosis.
