Abstract

The chapter briefly discusses obstetric and gynecologic care after kidney transplantation. Delaying pregnancy for up to 24 months after transplantation was recommended. It is important to individualize timing for each patient. The better optimized graft function, the greater likelihood of successful maternal, and fetal outcomes. Fertility, in those of reproductive age, often returns to normal after transplantation. It is recommended to allow time for resolution of postoperative complications, completion of viral prophylaxis, establishment of immunosuppressive regimen, and stability of the graft. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell patients found to have 13-fold increased risk of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. HPV vaccination has shown to reduce incidence of cervical and other genital tract dysplasia in healthy populations.
