Abstract

This chapter discusses training for sinonasal surgery technique provides the surgeon with excellent visualization, supplemented by an array of instruments that permit access to the depths of the sinuses, and to the base of the skull. Training was largely based on the literature and description of procedures. The applications of endoscopic procedures have expanded widely as safety and efficacy have been documented. The relevant anatomy is highly complex and compact, with the added concern of having critical structures such as the brain, orbital contents, and carotid artery closely juxtaposed and therefore at surgical risk. Surgery of the orbit can be facilitated by improved optics and anatomical depiction of the critical anatomy. Currently, training courses are a reputable part of otolaryngology head and neck surgical training.
