This chapter discusses aesthetic analysis of the rhinoplasty patient, where preoperative encounter with a patient seeking a cosmetic alteration to their nose must include the following essential facets, such as a detailed medical or nasal history, evaluation of the nasal airway and intranasal examination, a systematic nasal–facial analysis, and assessment of patient expectations and suitability for surgery. It is fundamental that a surgeon obtains and documents a thorough medical and nasal history for each patient in the preoperative consultation as many factors influence the complexity of surgery and its outcomes. A specific nasal history must contain information on inflammatory nasal conditions such as allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, and sinusitis as these may influence patient symptoms in the pre- and postoperative period. Careful analysis and characterization of the nasal skin are fundamental in aesthetic rhinoplasty. The base view allows for visualization of the lobule, columella, nostrils and alar lobules.
