The objective of this book is to introduce the “ocular pharmacotherapy”. Ocular Pharmacotherapy concerns the use of drugs to treat diseases of the eye. This book provides key information regarding both the basic pharmacology of ophthalmic drugs and their use in clinical practice. This book consists of 26 chapters. These include ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, topical anesthetics, ocular surface dyes, mydriatics and cycloplegics, commercially available topical antibiotics, topical fortified antibiotics, intravitreal and subconjunctival antibiotics, systemic antibiotics with ophthalmic clinical usefulness, antivirals, antifungals, antiparasitic drugs, steroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, immunosuppressants, biologics, intravitreal implants, medical treatment of glaucoma, antiangiogenics, ophthalmologic therapy with botulinum toxin, vitamins, antioxidants, antiallergics, tear substitute, treatment of blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction, ocular adverse reactions of systemic drugs and ocular adverse events of topical drugs. This book also includes a detailed appendix on the treatment of uveitis and covers new ophthalmic diagnostic and therapeutic formulations and delivery systems, which have been developed in recent years. The book addresses these concepts, providing new information for residents, students, and practicing ophthalmologists who need a ready source of information regarding both the basic pharmacology of ophthalmic drugs, and their utilization in clinical practice.
