Abstract

Hypertension is a common problem during pregnancy. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy classified into four categories such as chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, preeclampsia and eclampsia, all these have both short term and long term effects. Management strategies in HDP help to optimize pregnancy outcome and minimizing maternal risk. Management strategies includes: assessment of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, nonpharmacological management strategies, pharmacological management strategies, prevention strategies. The goal of these management strategies in HDP is to optimize, minimizing maternal risk while maintaining placental or fetal perfusion and prevent exacerbation of HTN and progression to preeclampsia. The treatment options for HDP vary according to woman’s wishes, diagnosis, severity, gestational age cultural and religious beliefs and the consultant’s recommendations etc. Prevention strategies deals with the risk reduction for preeclampsia and other complications of HDP and it include low-dose aspirin, dietary calcium supplementation etc.
