Abstract

Uremic cardiomyopathy deals with the cardiovascular abnormalities like LVH LV dilatation, LV systolic and diastolic dysfunctions with chronic kidney disease. Cardiac magnetic resonance show diffuse type of LGE suggestive of focal areas of fibrosis with increased LV mass but no LV systolic dysfunction and makes it different from other CKD patients with concomitant coronary artery disease. To reverse LVH in patients with uremic cardiomyopathy hemodialysis therapy is used. It offers significant benefits which include reversal of the hypertrophy state as well as improvement in LV systolic function. To overcome shortcomings of conventional hemodialysis new treatment techniques discovered such as short duration hemodialysis, nocturnal home hemodialysis, renal transplant and rapamycin with promising results.
