Abstract

Pulmonary hypertension is a pathophysiologic state caused by elevated pulmonary artery pressure. The various etiological factors that result in PH are grouped into distinct subsets based on pathophysiology and are pulmonary arterial hypertension, Pulmonary hypertension secondary to left heart diseases, PH due to lung disease, etc. Imaging techniques are useful in detection of PH, assessment of severity of PH, categorization, prognostication etc. Hypertension imaging tests done in patients with dyspnea, hemoptysis and risk factors like congenital heart diseases with large left to right shunts, portal hypertension, lung disease etc. All patients should have an ECG, Chest X-ray and echocardiography done in initial screening tests and Expensive investigations like CT or MR imaging done in selected patients. The findings in chest X-ray and echocardiography tests assist the clinician in obtaining diagnosis and prognosis of PH. echocardiography tests comprises of Hemodynamics of Pulmonary Circulation, Diastolic Pulmonary Artery Pressure, Pulmonary Vascular Resistance, Echocardiographic Evaluation for Geometry and Function of RV and LV, Echocardiography for Differentiating PH Groups, Nuclear Imaging, CT Chest, magnetic resonance imaging. Invasive hemodynamics and pulmonary angiography used for measurement of PAP etc.
