Abstract

Sudden cardiac death is unexpected natural death from a cardiac cause within a short time period. SCD-related issues between India and Western world are addressed under four areas: Epidemiological methods in assessment of SCD, Incidence and prevalence, SCD following ST elevation myocardial infarction and Inherited arrhythmia syndromes leading to SCD. Epidemiological methods explain the sparse contribution from India to global SCD statistics and there is a need to evolve practical data acquisition tools which can be to generate valid data. Incidence and prevalence of SCD the incidence of clinical and subclinical CAD is rising in the developing countries generating high risk for SCD and the study highlighted that unevaluated ischemic heart disease was the predominant cause of SCD. SCD following ST elevation myocardial infarction showed that globally, based medications are underused and the compliance is worse in low-income countries and the effectiveness of these medications in reducing mortality and sudden death. Inherited arrhythmia syndromes leading to SCD related to ventricular arrhythmias and focus to reduced SCD. This needs increased widespread awareness in general practitioners and multidisciplinary collaboration.
