Abstract

The acyanotic congenital heart defects can be classified into the lesions that increase the volume load of the heart. Pathophysiology of ACHD describes the pathophysiology of left to right shunts of the atrial level with dilated right sided and increased flow across the right ventricular outflow tract and across the tricuspid valve. Suspect ACHD by L-R Shunts present with congestive heart failure manifesting as feeding difficulty and failure to thrive. Problems associated with left to right shunt lesions are respiratory complications, pulmonary hypertension, myocardial dysfunction etc. Clinical examinations include pulse and blood pressure, precordial activity, second heart sound and murmur. Auscultation in individual ACHD describes atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, left ventricle to right atrial communication, patent ductus arteriosus, obstructive lesions. It can be diagnosed by chest X-ray and electrocardiogram.
