Acute aortic dissection is an acute pathophysiological process involving the tunica media of aortic wall which results in rupture or any further life-threatening complications. Aortic dissection is acute or chronic depending on the onset of symptoms or dissection and classified into DeBakey and the Stanford systems. DeBakey categorize dissections into three types according to the location of the dissection and its intimal tear: Type I aortic dissections involve the ascending and descending aorta, type II dissections involve the ascending aorta alone, and type III dissections are limited to the descending aorta. Management of aortic aneurysm includes interventions for aortic aneurysms having ascending aortic aneurysms, aortic arch aneurysms, descending thoracic aortic aneurysms, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and endovascular aortic aneurysm repair.
