Abstract

The present chapter comprises of stress and heart. Stress is a reaction to any change and law of life change. There are differences in the way the term stress is defined, measured, and used in research. Stress has been an important focus of research on environmental and psychosocial factors and health. There are two different types of stress such as Chronic Stress, It is long-standing and presumably exerts its influence over a period of time. Acute stress involves transient changes resulting from exposure to aversive environmental events of brief duration, often of abrupt onset, and both unpredictable and uncontrollable. Chapter also briefly discusses about the natural history of stress- induced heart disease. Chapter mentions the four distinct phases in the development of stress disorders such as psychic phase, psychosomatic phase, somatic phase and organic phase. The chapter correlates the pathophysiological mechanism of stress and CAD along with stress cardiomyopathy. Finally chapter concludes with the different modes of therapy and management techniques used to relief stress.
