Abstract

The utility of scintigraphic imaging with exercise in coronary heart disease (CHD) settings will be reviewed in this chapter. It also covers various meta-analysis studies, clinical trials, comparison of various test performance, technical issues, myocardial perfusion imaging and stress echocardiography. The choice among the different types of stress tests is based upon the patient’s ability to exercise to a level high enough to produce meaningful results on exercise electrocardiogram testing. Exercise MPI is typically performed with concurrent ECG monitoring. The degree of inducible ischemia during stress MPI may help determine which patients with stable CHD will have a survival benefit from revascularization as opposed to medical therapy.
