Abstract

This chapter discusses about the strategies that are to be followed to prevent obesity. The suitable strategies have been explained in different age groups like childhood, schools, and workplaces. And the guidelines and preventive measures are explained for the different age group in this chapter. Our environment influences our food choices and, unfortunately, promotes unhealthy eating in most areas of the world today. Making healthy foods and drinks (particularly safe drinking water) more convenient and affordable and limiting access to high-calorie, low-nutrient foods (“junk food”) and sugary drinks are important steps. Healthy food environment and healthy active environment plays a major role to prevent obesity. The main focus of the overall strategy should be on making “small changes” as time and again evidence has shown that by effecting only a slight change in the positive energy balance of a society, enormous strides can be made in improving public health.
