Abstract

Treating physicians and patients should have a clear vision of magnitude of risk and possible outcome of medical conditions and these risk estimates were made by physicians in the past on the basis of their own clinical experiences. Nowadays, multifactorial risk analysis and logistic regression analysis are made to determine the weightage of individual risk factors for the prediction of outcome. Several risk engines and scoring systems are able to predict disease outcome and limitations are discussed in this chapter. The Framingham risk score is a widely used gender-specific algorithm that estimates the 10‑year cardiovascular risk of a given individual. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease fibrosis score is used to assess the degree of liver fibrosis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Indian Diabetes Risk Score is used to detect undiagnosed diabetes in the community in a cost-effective way by using four simple parameters. The components of the above mentioned score system varies accordingly. This chapter also discusses on dream score system in detail.
