Abstract

Ultrasound imaging of thyroid disorders is widely used in clinical and other fields of studies. Various principles of ultrasound imaging to study thyroid diseases such as range etc., have their complete detail here. Various terminologies used in reporting images such as anechoic, hypoechoic, hyper echoic, isoechoic and acoustic shadowing etc., are also discussed here. Ultrasound imaging is widely used in thyroid imaging for utero evaluation of fetal thyroid gland, identification of ectopic thyroid tissue in the neck, determination of morphology of goiters, determination of thyroid gland size, evaluation of regional lymph nodes, in differential diagnosis of neck swelling etc. All these aspect of evaluation of thyroid diseases are completely discussed in this chapter.
