This book “Textbook of Microbiology for GNM Students” emphasizes that the knowledge of microbiology is crucially associated with nursing practice. Nurses are the backbone of medical services and patient care in the health sector. Nursing includes independent and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. It aims at promotion of health, prevention of illness and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. Chapters of this book are divided into seven units which explain the introduction of microorganisms, infection and its transmission, immunity, control and destruction of microorganisms and laboratory techniques. Nurses can apply this knowledge of microbiology in methods of infection control, keeping instruments clean and free of contamination, dressing wounds safely in a way that minimizes the possibility of infection and also in identifying different types of infections.
