Abstract

This chapter discusses about the common and uncommon conditions, emergencies, and syndromes in the field of orthopedics. Patient may present with sinuses, which are adherent to the bone. Granulation tissue may be protruding from the sinus. Bone is thickened. X-ray reveals sequestrum surrounded by involucrum. Treatment consists of removal of the infected tissues and the sequestrum. Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease is a condition in which there is a temporary avascular necrosis of the capital epiphysis (head) of the femur. Initial management should focus on pain relief, with a reduction in activities and the use of antiinflammatory medications, and short periods of bed rest for major episodes of pain or loss of joint motion. Excessive femoral torsion is the most common cause of intoeing in children, and observational management is the best. Congenital scoliosis with skin marker develops due to malformation of the vertebrae, and progressive deformities are treated by surgery.
