Gastroenterology

by Krishan Chugh, Anupam Sachdeva, Ajay Gambhir, Satinder Aneja, AP Dubey, Shyam Kukreja

The Gastroenterology provides all aspects of pediatrics, including guidelines available for all subspecialties, particularly for all practicing pediatricians. Various malabsorptive syndromes due to carbohydrate, fat, and protein malabsorption can result in chronic malnutrition in a child. Since the increased water content in the stools is the most important criterion, some authors advise to diagnose diarrhoea according to volume of stools. Acute liver failure (ALF) results from rapid death or injury to a large proportion of hepatocytes, leaving insufficient hepatic parenchymal mass to sustain liver function. Early triage of patient is of importance for optimal management of the patients with pancreatitis. Some of the highlighted topics include chronic diarrhea, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, acute liver failure, and acute diarrhea in children, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and neonatal cholestasis.
