Abstract

Quality in optical dispensing implies “total quality management”, not just product quality control. Total quality management means quality of output depends upon quality of input. The extension is that quality management has to be implemented across the whole process, starting from selecting a frame and lens to final delivery of spectacle together with well-defined aftercare policy. In optical dispensing, the quality standards may be established by analyzing the consumer expectations from their spectacle. A genuine consumer usually carries certain expectations from their eye wear; they are tabulated in this chapter. Based on these expectations, quality control procedure may be applied as a part of total quality management program which are also listed this chapter. Certain checklists which are basic quality control procedures that form the part of whole procedure are also mentioned in this chapter.
