Abstract

The entire process of dispensing completes in two stages. Stage one is dominated by selection and consultation procedures during which lot of communications takes place that build up expectations in the minds of the patient as to his spectacle. Stage two is the time when the patient comes back to collect his spectacle and feels his spectacle. The optician makes all his effort to fit the spectacle so that it serves the purpose to his satisfaction. This is the stage when the optician should act in manner that makes the difference in his lives. There are certain sequential processes that he must follow during this stage while delivering the spectacle to the patient. They are verification of spectacles before the patient’s visit, on eye vision and fitting assessment, instruction on spectacle handling and care and maintenance, instructions on adaptive symptoms, and follow up visits. All these stages are discussed thoroughly in this chapter.
