Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to discuss surgical instruments, which include scalpel handles, scalpel blades, needle holders, forceps, scissors, nail surgery instruments, and surgical tray. Various surgical instruments are used in the expanding field of dermatologic surgery. Slight structural variations to these individual instruments allow for differences in functionality so that tools may be best selected for the specific task at hand. This chapter will detail types of instruments most commonly utilized in procedural dermatology. Knowledge of the various tools and materials available will further enhance the skill of the dermatologic surgeon. Proper investment and selection of surgical instruments will influence surgical outcomes by enhancing cosmesis and functionality. Dermatologic surgeons must carefully select tools that will fulfill their needs while also considering quality and cost. A brief description on other instruments has been also provided in this chapter.
