The scientific study of human body parts and their relationships is known as anatomy. Human anatomy deals with the way the parts of humans, from molecules to bones, interact to form a functional whole. This edition of Inderbir Singh’s Textbook of Anatomy has been prepared keeping the twin factors of the restructuring of medical curriculum and the knowledge expansion in mind. Many of the chapters have been completely revised and rewritten. Clinical correlation has been clearly laid out. Embryological and histological details have been added so as to give the reader a comprehensive picture. Newer features like multiple choice questions and clinical problem-solving have been appended to each chapter in order to provide the reader with the opportunity of self-assessment. This volume is divided into three sections and comprises of total 40 chapters. The first section provides a brief discussion on anatomy of head and neck which covers bones, joints, endocrine glands, blood vessels, nerves, cross-sectional, radiological and surface anatomy of head and neck. It also covers scalp, face, temporal and infratemporal regions, cranial cavity, vertebral canal, viscera of the neck, orbit, eye, ear, and the organs of hearing and balance, etc. The second section is on neuroanatomy which talks about the central nervous system, spinal cord, brainstem, cranial nerves, cerebellum, ventricles of the brain, etc. The last section of this volume acquaint about the genetics and covers a broad discussion on important terms in genetics such as, chromosomes, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), alleles, genotype, phenotype, codominance, etc. Additional features like added information and clinical correlation in any chapter will be of much help not only to the undergraduate students but also to the postgraduates.
