The objective of this chapter is to introduce the vascular closure device. Manual compression for achieving hemostasis is a gold standard and time proven method. This chapter gives an overview of most of the globally available VCDs and the challenges faced in the widespread adoption of VCDs in the Indian subcontinent. Based on their mechanisms of action, VCDs can be broadly divided into three main categories which are active approximators, passive approximators and external hemostatic devices briefly explained in this chapter.
