Handbook of Pain Management in Practice

by Sree Ranjani S

‘Pain’ as an entity has a multifactorial etiology and is complex. Moreover, the treatment of pain is not as simple as it sounds. Lack of a concise knowledge of these facts has led to gross misdiagnosis and mismanagement of pain resulting in untold suffering to the patients involved. Recognition of these facts has led to the development of pain management as a separate specialty in recent years. The book “Handbook of Pain Management in Practice” aims to educate general practitioners and also budding pain practitioners on the basics of the treatment of pain. This book consist of twenty one chapters, which discusses on basics of pain, assessment of a patient with pain, pharmacotherapy of pain, radiological assessment of a patient in pain and the different kinds of pain with their management, which includes acute pain, headache, facial pain, backache, chronic pelvic pain, musculoskeletal pain etc. In addition, a chapter on interventions in pain management practice is included to know about the basics of these procedures, but these procedures have to be practiced only under the guidance and by those having the necessary qualification and expertise because most of these are potentially dangerous.
