The aim of this book is to focus on the caesarean section. Caesarean section, also known as C-section or caesarean delivery, is the use of surgery to deliver one or more babies. A caesarean section is often performed when a vaginal delivery would put the baby or mother at risk. This may include obstructed labour, twin pregnancy, high blood pressure in the mother, breech birth, problems with the placenta or umbilical cord. A caesarean delivery may be performed based upon the shape of the mother's pelvis or history of a previous C-section. A trial of vaginal birth in some of these situations, including after C-section, may be possible. This book consists of 29 chapters which include parturition, birth canal (passageway), uterus, passenger (foetus), mechanism and physiopathology of parturition, diagnosis in clinical obstetrics, partograph, trial of labour, preparing for the operation, anaesthesia, laparotomies, various types of hysterotomy, transverse hysterotomies, vertical hysterotomies, management of intraoperative complications, tubal sterilization, abdominal wall closure, uterine rupture, laparotomic wound suture, postcaesarean wound dehiscence, obstructed labour injury complex, breech presentation, transverse presentation, and oblique lies, symphysiotomy and destructive operations. In this book, author has tried to make available to younger colleagues what little have learned over the course of author’s professional lives. The aim of this book is to reduce the number of nagging doubts that will inevitably accompany their professional lives, especially if conducted in the tropics.
