Sadikot's International Textbook of Diabetes

by Kamlakar Tripathi, Banshi Saboo

The aim of this Sadikot's international textbook focuses on diabetes. Worldwise rising prevalence and incidence of diabetes originates from a complex interaction between lifestyle, obesity, and innate susceptibility, driven by both genetic and developmental programming by maternal and postnatal nutrition. Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose also is too high. This book consists of 8 sections, which include basic diabetology, clinical diabetology, management of diabetes, chronic complications, acute complications, special situations, diabetes beyond glycemia, and diabetes—public health and economics, which are further divided into 135 chapters. This book has been immense contribution by epidemiological studies which has set different standards of glucose control in relation to micro- and macrovascular complications, cardiovascular mortality, and overall survival; this has made drug researchers to prove cardiovascular safety to drug regulatory authorities of all the countries. The insulin delivery technology is getting more and more refined and user-friendly, and the introduction of wearable insulin pumps, various injecting devices, and artificial pancreas have provided another option for special segments of diabetic population. Reprogramming, replication, replacement, regeneration of decaying β-cell, and stem cell transplant have given a substantial hope for curing the diabetes even in type 1 diabetes mellitus. This textbook will live up to the expectations of health care professionals of this segment.
