Abstract

This chapter aims to introduce suction blister epidermal grafting (SBEG). The SBEG is a method of tissue grafting in vitiligo surgery where the pigmented epidermis is harvested from the donor site by prolonged suction at a negative pressure to raise a blister followed by transplantation of the blister roof to the dermabraded or laser ablated vitiliginous recipient site leading to transfer of melanocytes to the underlying dermal surface and resulting in repigmentation of the achromic site. The suction used in SBEG causes a physiological split at the dermoepidermal junction and results in very thin skin grafts. This method is, however, unsuitable for large areas that require more number of grafts and multiple surgical sessions. A detailed discussion on patient selection, procedure and course of grafts are also provided in this chapter.
