Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the wound healing. The healing process depends on local wound factors, systemic mediators, the underlying disease and the type of injury. Inflammatory phase, proliferative phase and remodeling phase are three phases of wound healing, which are discussed in this chapter. Current limitations in the treatment of chronic wounds are due to the incomplete understanding of the molecular mechanisms hindering repair. The success of novel therapies depends upon a comprehensive knowledge of the underlying pathophysiology. Wound healing in dermatological and esthetic conditions and procedures, and wound healing after procedures are also discussed in this chapter. A well-illustrated table on factors affecting wound healing and resulting in chronicity of wound is also presented in this chapter.
