The objective of this chapter is to introduce the hidradenitis suppurativa. Hidradenitis suppurativa is also known as Verneuil’s disease, acne inversa or smoker boils. HS is a chronic, recurrent, debilitating disease that presents usually after puberty with painful, deep seated, inflammatory lesions in the apocrine glands of the body. HS is seen usually after puberty during the second and third decade of life and onset after menopause is rare. HS in prepubertal age group is associated with premature adrenarche. This chapter covers the pathogenesis of HS, clinical features of HS, prognosis and complications, disease association of HS, treatment of HS, prognosis and complications of HS, and intralesional corticosteroids. The use of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide 5–10 mg/mL has been advocated for the rapid reduction of inflammation associated with acute flares and for management of recalcitrant nodules and sinus tracts.
