Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the circumcision. Circumcision is the surgical removal in part or the entire foreskin (prepuce) from the penis. Circumcision is performed extensively for religious and cultural factors in Muslims and Jews. This chapter covers the history of circumcision, indication of circumcision, instruments required, preoperative investigations, anesthesia, procedure, postoperative care, postoperative management, circumcision in infants, and complications. The most common complication is bleeding from the frenular artery. It is ideal to ligate the artery in all cases and not rely on pressure or cautery hemostasis alone. Advantages and disadvantages of dorsal slit technique and advantages and disadvantages of guided forceps technique are also discussed in this chapter.
