Techniques in ACL Surgery

by Sachin Ramchandra Tapasvi

This book focuses on techniques in ACL surgery. The anterior cruciate ligament plays a pivotal role in the functioning and stability of the knee joint. Treatment of injuries of this ligament continues to evolve and what was ‘state of the art’ a decade ago is passé today. The surgical modalities have continually improved with better techniques, better technology and better understanding of the patients’ needs. This book consists of 34 chapters, which include placing correct portals for transportal ACL reconstruction, harvesting and preparing an ideal bone patella tendon bone graft, harvesting hamstring tendons, cosmetic harvesting of the hamstring tendons, preparation of 5- and 6-strand hamstring tendon grafts for single-bundle hamstring anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, quadriceps tendon autograft in ACL reconstruction, harvesting peroneus longus tendon, clinical evaluation and imaging for a patient with ACL injury, arthroscopic diagnosis and injury patterns of anterior cruciate ligament, identifying the femoral footprint, creating a transtibial femoral tunnel, identifying the tibial footprint, graft tensioning and conditioning, remnant preservation techniques in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, double bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and improving outcomes of ACL reconstruction. Rehabilitation is an important part of the treatment and the general principles are summarized neatly at the end of the book. This book will be a constant presence in the young arthroscopic specialists’ career as well as for the more experienced discerning surgeons, who wish to update their knowledge and skills.
