This book mainly focuses on “Neuro Spinal Surgery Operative Techniques—Micro Lumbar Discectomy”. Micro lumbar discectomy is an offshoot of the yesteryears’ most popular technique laminectomy that was widely practiced by neurosurgeons for many years and hence is easy to learn and perform using microscope. The book is spread out in an organized fashion. Starting with the applied anatomy, the author takes the reader through the importance of preoperative planning, especially positioning. The book then deals, in length and detail, with the operative techniques of micro lumbar discectomy. The quality and the importance devoted to figures and illustrations are truly commendable. The ‘surgical tricks’ incorporated by the author are truly helpful. Accompanying lateral canal stenosis is always a surgical challenge and the book details how to tackle this problem, including the disc migration issue. This book comprises 10 chapters which include basic applied anatomy, preoperative preparations, operative techniques with case examples, on-table complications, steps to prevent epidural fibrosis, epidural medications, micro lumbar double-hook retractors, instruments, microscopes and magnifying loupes and final thoughts.
