Abstract

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is one of the first treatment options for infertility and a technique in assisted reproductive technologies (ART). It is the safest, least invasive, and cost-effective forms of assisted reproduction. Ovarian stimulation has been shown to significantly improve the outcome in IUI cycles. Many oral agents are also used for ovarian stimulation. Clomiphene citrate is an effective treatment for oligoovulation and anovulation. Gonadotropins are used to treat infertility caused by anovulation. Letrozole, helpful in ovulation induction, has been shown to be superior to clomiphene for patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Protocols should attempt to minimize risk of multiple pregnancy and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.
