Abstract

This chapter presents a brief discussion on time-lapse imaging. Increased handling and higher evaluation frequency expose the embryo to undesirable changes in temperature, humidity and gas composition. Time-lapse systems (TMSs) represent a solution to this problem. Morphokinetics, defined as the combination of the embryo appearance (morphology) and the timing in which cellular events occur, has been introduced as a new concept to improve embryo selection. TMS allows the precise determinations of the onset, and duration of an interval between cell divisions. There are different available options of TMS in the market. Some of them present all the items integrated in one single equipment. A detailed discussion on blastocyst development studies, implantation studies, aneuploidy studies, and research studies has been presented in this chapter.
