Abstract

The chapter discusses upon child health nursing or pediatric nursing. A pediatric nurse works in a specialty position in the field of nursing. This specialty focuses on the care of infants and children, as well as adolescents that are under the age of 18 years. It is essential to understand the concepts of growth and development when learning to care for children. Growth and development or quantitative and qualitative changes in body organ functioning, ability to communicate, and performance of motor skills unfold over time and are key components in the process of planning pediatric health care. Other topics covered are importance of specialist pediatric training, Freud’s theory of psychosexual development, Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development, milestones of growth and development, severe acute malnutrition, pediatric genitourinary disorders, congenital anomalies, infant care, and under five clinic.
