The chapter lists a variety of needles and needle holders available and asserts upon how a particular needle is appropriate for a particular purpose. It lays down the needle characteristics including grip, tip design, shape, swiveling feature, etc. A surgeon should try out numerous kinds of needles holders prior to purchasing them because the weight and type of handles vary. The weight of needle holder may aid in intracorporeal knot-tying. The needle holders come in a variety, e.g. first generation needle holders like Semm needle holder and second generation needle holders. Needle holders are different from one another in the manner of their grip, locking mechanism, classical or novel design and many other features.
