The chapter revolves around various types of sutures that are specially designed for specific procedures. Suture is any material used to ligate blood vessels or to approximate tissues. The surgeons must evaluate each case and choose material to maximize healing and minimize the occurrence of infection. New emerging sutures are knotless barbed, smart, elastic, electronic, antimicrobial, drug eluting and stem cell seeded sutures.
