Abstract

The chapter deals with the definition of ergonomics and its importance in laparoscopic surgery. Ergonomics is the science that deals with best suiting the worker to his job, or to make the work setting and surroundings favorable for the laparoscopic surgeon. The ergonomics study helps in having working knowledge about key areas like placement of a standard video monitor, height of operating table, trocar placements, and manipulation angles. These considerations help and aid a laparoscopist to make possible less discomfort and operative difficulty when instruments are positioned in a certain way. Ergonomic integration and suitable laparoscopic operating room environment are essential to improve efficiency, safety, and comfort for the operating team in a laparoscopic surgery.
