Abstract

The recent technological advancement has revolutionized the hysteroscope usage. In-depth knowledge of the instrument allows the surgeon to prevent malfunctions. Different approaches should be considered for selecting an appropriate instrument such as optical clarity, cost, durability and performance of allied parts, and upgradability of the instruments. The rigid hysteroscope comprises telescope with diagnostic sheaths whereas the standard Bettocchi hysteroscope has Hopkins based rod lens system. Ancillary instruments for use through rigid hysteroscopes are of three distinct types: flexible, semi-rigid, and rigid. With Hopkin endoscopes, standard fiberoptic cables are used. Different types of endocamera are significant in hysteroscope usage for efficient imaging. The utilization of office hysteroscopy and the bipolar resectoscope enhances uterine cavity distention and it is highly appropriate to use physiological saline solution. Fluids of low or high viscosity are the most commonly used distending media for operative hysteroscopy. Morcellator systems are available for removal of fibroids hysteroscopically.
