Abstract

This chapter intends to highlight the importance and options available for optimal glycemic monitoring in children with diabetes, focusing on type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Self-monitoring of blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, fructosamine and other glycated products, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and digital monitoring are various options of glycemic monitoring. Glycemic monitoring in children is a team effort involving the patient, caregivers (parents), and healthcare professionals. With the advent of technology, a great variety of options are available now. Optimal use of these options can play a great role in improving good quality of life (QOL) and long-term outcomes in children with diabetes. A detailed discussion on parental role in glycemic monitoring and control has been provided in this chapter.
