Abstract

Echocardiography is the mainstay in assessing the severity of tricuspid valvular heart disease in clinical practice. The evaluation of tricuspid valve begins with assessment of the anatomy by 2D echocardiography to find out the suspected etiology of the tricuspid valve disease. The assessment of severity of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is primarily done by color Doppler flow mapping to assess the size of the regurgitating jet area and the width of the vena contracta. The severity of tricuspid stenosis (TS) is evaluated with the help of the parameters provided by continuous wave Doppler. This chapter covers the role of two-dimensional echocardiography (2DE) in assessment of tricuspid valve anatomy, two-dimensional echocardiographic views for tricuspid valve, evaluation of tricuspid regurgitation, primary tricuspid regurgitation, secondary tricuspid regurgitation, assessment of severity of tricuspid regurgitation, and assessment of tricuspid stenosis.
