Abstract

The most common cause of nonbilious vomiting in a healthy newborn after 3 weeks of life is infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS). The etiopathogenesis is unknown. The treatment encompasses correction of the metabolic alkalosis and surgical relief of the obstruction. This Chapter describes the clinical features and management of this condition based on clinical scenario of a 5-week-old infant who presented with recurrent nonbilious vomiting and failure to thrive.
